Level of Experience
• 1–8+ years of California Workers’ Compensation experience • Newly licensed attorneys with strong interest in WC defense will also be considered
Practice Specialty
• California Workers’ Compensation Defense • Experience with insurance carriers and self-insured employers preferred
Position Description
We are a growing California workers’ compensation defense firm representing insurance carriers, third-party administrators, and self-insured employers. We are seeking a motivated defense attorney to manage a litigation-focused WC caseload from inception through resolution. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, responsive, and comfortable handling all aspects of WC litigation, including depositions, medical-legal issues, and settlement negotiations.
Key Responsibilities
• Manage a full caseload of California workers’ compensation defense matters • Appear at hearings, conferences, and trials before the WCAB • Take and defend depositions (applicant and medical experts) • Analyze medical-legal reports (QME/AME) and prepare case strategies • Communicate with claims examiners and clients regarding case status and recommendations • Draft pleadings, discovery, motions, and settlement documents • Evaluate exposure, permanent disability, apportionment, and settlement value
Caseload
• Approximately 70–90 active files, depending on experience and complexity • Supported by experienced legal assistants and administrative staff
Compensation
• Salary Range: (DOE) • Bonus Opportunities: Based on productivity and performance - Quarterly billing bonus. • Benefits: Health insurance, paid time off, holidays, bar dues, CLE allowance, 401k • Flexible Work Options: Hybrid and remote arrangements available for qualified candidates
Qualifications
• Active member in good standing with the California State Bar • Prior workers’ compensation defense experience preferred • Strong writing, analytical, and communication skills • Ability to manage deadlines and maintain organization in a fast-paced environment
