Claims Technician (Liability)

The City of Torrance is currently seeking a responsive and customer service oriented Claims Technician to join the Risk Management Team! 

The Department
The Finance Department is a dynamic organization whose mission is to protect the City's assets while providing and supporting the Torrance community with sound financial advice in a timely, cost effective and professional manner. 

The Division
The Enterprise Risk Management Division is responsible for adjusting all liability and workers' compensation claims filed against the City; implementing policies and procedures across the organization to reduce the City's exposure to liability, workers' compensation and property losses; and ensuring all City operations are carried out in compliance with local, state and federal safety regulations.

The position
As part of the Risk Management Team, the Liability Claims Technician performs paraprofessional duties such as receive, conduct preliminary investigations of, and assess liability claims. This position requires a high degree of discretion and independent judgment and reports to the Enterprise Risk Manager.  The Claims Technician prepares committee agendas and takes minutes; sets-up files and logs claims; transmits claims information to a third-party administrator, responds to inquiries; provides information regarding benefits; and composes routine letters and correspondence.
