Workers Compensation Administrator

 

The Claremont Colleges Services (TCCS) is the shared services organization for a highly regarded cluster of seven independent colleges known as The Claremont Colleges located in Southern California. Today, TCCS is a nationally recognized educational model for academic support, student support and institutional support services to meet the needs of 6,300 students and 2,300 faculty and staff. Job Description:

The Workers' Compensation Administrator is responsible for the daily administration of all workers' compensation matters for The Claremont Colleges by working with insurance brokers, insurance carriers, medical providers, other workers' compensation providers and agencies of the State of California to facilitate ongoing administration and management of claims.

 

Essential Functions:

Claims Management:

 

• Processes and analyzes the workers' compensation program and related data

• Coordinates claims benefit between injured employees and insurance carriers and self-insurance fund

• Works with constituents throughout the colleges to ensure the accurate and timely reporting of claims and benefit payments

• Updates the Human Resources Offices regarding the status of disability and workers' compensation claims including “return to work” and reasonable accommodations opportunities and strategies

• Provides back up for the voluntary disability team

• Processes Long Term Disability claims as needed

 

Management Reports:

 

• Compiles statistical data from claims experience

• Provides the Human Resources Committee and other management groups with regular reports and updates to assist in identifying trends

 

Supervisor and Employee Training:

 

• Proactively coordinates with constituents throughout the colleges to provide supervisor and employee training regarding workers' compensation law, claims reporting, safety issues and transitional or modified work assignments

• Coordinates with the Environmental Health and Safety Office on providing worker safety training and participates on the all campus Safety Committee

 

College Representation:

 

• Represents the colleges' interests at the Workers' Compensation Appeals Board and depositions

• Addresses and responds to subpoena requests

• Consults with Human Resources regarding workers' compensation appeal board hearings and depositions

 

Loss Control:

 

• Reviews and recommends appropriate cost containment techniques including strategic vendor partnerships to reduce overall cost of claims to the colleges

 

Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Education:

Minimum education requirement is a Workers' Compensation Certification and A.A. degree or higher.

 

Preferred Experience:

 

• Preferred work experience includes a minimum of five years of experience in workers' compensation or claims management

• Bilingual English/Spanish

 

Required Knowledge and Critical Skills:

 

• Establishes successful administration of workers' compensation and disability processes and claims management

• Creatively explores strategies to minimize loss exposure and contain costs

• Works with the Benefits team, Payroll and various constituents, including directors and management, and member institutions, to provide a high level of responsive customer service, including the cultivation of effective partnership relationships

• Collaborates with superiors and constituents resulting in trust and free-flowing communication

• Fosters respect from others

• Establishes and adjusts priorities that distinguish the important from the urgent

• Multitasks effectively and demonstrates responsiveness to constituents, subordinates, peers and superiors

• Projects and establishes a standard reflecting a professional image through dress, demeanor and office environment

• Communicates relevant information clearly and concisely in a timely manner in written and verbal form

• Demonstrates initiative through early identification of problems and resourcefulness in timely resolution

• Demonstrates openness and responsiveness to new ideas and change and is able to influence others likewise

• Demonstrates ability to follow through and implement plans and changes

• Strong service orientation, relational and communication skills

• Personal computer experience using spreadsheets and word processing

• Ability to calculate numerical data

 

Work Schedule:

The regular hours for this full time position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday. Holiday, weekend and evening work hours may be required. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the organization or business unit.
